Wayra

Artisan: Wayra

Wayra is a Peruvian family enterprise founded in 2003 by Mercedes Benavides specializing in the production of handmade textiles using natural, luxurious fibers such as alpaca wool, cotton, wool and other Peruvian blends. We produce throws, bed blankets, pillows, shams, sweaters, gloves, shawls, scarves, hats and many other hand knitted, hand loomed, and hand crocheted products. In Quechua, the native language of the Incas, Wayra means 'wind'. This word reflects our spirit and represents our ability to move with changing market dynamics and the requirements of our clients. We are committed to sustainable development and work with more than 2000 artisans in the highlands of Peru, especially in mining communities 3800 meters above sea level. We work under the rules of fair trade in many regions including Lima, Moquegua, Puno, Huancavelica, Junín, Trujillo & Cerro de Pasco.
