René Holguin opened his shop, RTH, on Los Angeles’s La Cienega Boulevard in 2011. The son of an El Paso bootmaker, Holguin grew up between Mexican and American culture, cherry-picking the best aspects of both and channeling them into his handworked leather goods and clothing. His father’s company, Laramie Boot Co., now partners with RTH on early production of many of his leather goods. For other projects, he has reached out to and collaborated with groups of artisans—like a community of Blackfeet Indians in Montana, with whom he has produced a line of beaded accessories.
